Add an AI Chatbot to Your Wix Site

No app from the Wix App Market required. Use Wix's built-in Custom Code setting to add BotDesk to every page in about 5 minutes.

Start 7-Day Free Trial What is BotDesk?

Setup in 4 steps

Get Your Wix Chatbot Live

Wix's built-in Custom Code setting does the job. No app install needed.

Before you start: Wix only allows custom code on a site that is published and has a connected domain, which needs a Wix Premium plan. If your site still uses a free wixsite.com address, upgrade and connect your domain first.

The BotDesk side, 36 seconds

No sound, with captions. It shows the BotDesk side on a plain HTML site: copy your install code from the Install on your site page, paste it just before </body>, save, then click Check if it's live. In Wix you paste the code in Custom Code instead (steps 2 and 3).
1

Set up your bot and copy your code

Create your BotDesk account and type in your website address. BotDesk reads your site and learns your services, hours and common questions on its own, so there's nothing to type in by hand. Pick what you want the bot to do and try it out. Then open the Install tab in your BotDesk dashboard and click Copy your install code. It looks like this:

<script async src="https://botdesk.studio/widget.js" data-api-key="YOUR_API_KEY" data-name="AI Assistant" data-color="#1F5AA8" data-greeting="Hi! ๐Ÿ‘‹ How can I help you today?"></script>

Copy yours from the dashboard instead of typing it: your copy has your own key where this one says YOUR_API_KEY. The code carries your key and a few display settings. Everything else, like what the bot knows, your hours and where leads go, loads from your BotDesk account.

2

Open Custom Code settings in Wix

Go to your site's dashboard and click Settings. Then click Custom Code in the Development & integrations section.

The Wix side

Video: adding custom code in Wix Settings (by Wix Help, 2025)Starts at 0:10. It shows the Wix side. Your BotDesk code comes from Install on your site in your dashboard. The video calls the section Advanced. In Wix today it is called Development & integrations. Watch on YouTube
3

Add the BotDesk code

Click + Add Custom Code at the top right and paste your BotDesk code. Give it a name you will recognize, like BotDesk. Under "Add Code to Pages" choose All pages, under "Place Code in" choose Body - end, then click Apply.

4

Publish and check your site

If your site has unpublished changes, click Publish. Then open your live site: the chat bubble appears in the bottom corner of every page.

After you install

Check It, Then Make It Yours

Check that it's live

Open your website and look for the chat bubble in the bottom corner, then ask it a question. You can also open the Install tab in your dashboard, type your website address and click Check if it's live.

Where your leads go

When the bot takes a visitor's name and phone number, we email it to you and it also shows in the Leads tab. It goes to the email you signed up with unless you change it: open What your bot does, click Emails to you, and fill in Where should we send new leads?

The Free plan takes up to 3 leads a month. Starter and up take unlimited leads.

Changes reach your site by themselves

Change anything in your dashboard, like what the bot knows, how it looks, the pop-up message or the booking button, and save. Changes reach your site automatically within a few minutes. You don't need to paste the code again. Not seeing a change yet? Do a hard refresh: Ctrl+Shift+R, or Cmd+Shift+R on a Mac.

Business hours vs team availability

Your business hours (What your bot knows, then Business info, then Hours) are what the bot tells visitors when they ask if you're open. The team schedule in the Team tab (Growth plan and up) only decides when your staff show as available for live chat. They are separate, so changing one doesn't change the other.

Holidays, vacations and closed days

Open What your bot knows, then Business info, and scroll to Hours. Under Closed days and holidays, tap a holiday, use Going on vacation? for a run of dates, or click + Add a closed day. Check that Your time zone is right, then click Save settings. The bot will tell visitors you're closed on those days.

Stuck? We'll help

Send us your website address and we'll help you get it live by email, free.

Someone else runs your website? Open Install on your site in your BotDesk dashboard and click Email steps to my web person. Or email hello@botdesk.studio. We'll reply by email within 24 hours.

FAQ

Wix Install Questions

Can I add a chatbot to Wix without an app from the Wix App Market?

Yes. Wix's built-in Custom Code feature (Settings > Custom Code) lets you paste any embed code, including BotDesk's, without installing an app.

Do I need a Wix premium plan to use custom code?

Yes. Wix only lets you add custom code to a site that is published and has a connected domain, and connecting a domain requires a Wix Premium plan. A free site on a wixsite.com address can't use Custom Code.

Will the chatbot show up on every page of my Wix site?

Yes. Set the code to load on "All pages" in the Custom Code settings and the BotDesk chat appears site-wide.

Can I remove or update the chatbot later?

Yes. Change your bot in the BotDesk dashboard any time: changes reach your site automatically within a few minutes, with no need to paste the code again. To take it down, remove the code from Wix Settings. One thing to know: if you switch your Wix site to a different domain, Wix deletes your custom code, so paste the BotDesk code in again afterwards.
