Pick where your website is built and follow the steps. Most installs take about 5 minutes and need no coding.
Pick your platform
Not sure? Look at the bottom of your website for a "Powered by" line, or ask whoever built it. You can also skip this page: the Install tab in your dashboard shows the steps for your platform.
Sites built on WordPress, with any theme or page builder such as Elementor or Divi. Free plugin, or paste the code.
Online stores that run WooCommerce on WordPress. Same free plugin, plus order tracking on Store Pro.
Shopify stores. Free app from the Shopify App Store, or paste one line into your theme.
Wix sites on a Premium plan with a connected domain. Uses Wix's Custom Code setting.
Squarespace sites on Core, Plus, Advanced or an older Business or Commerce plan.
Webflow sites on a paid Site plan or a paid Workspace.
Classic GoDaddy hosting works fully. Website Builder has limits, explained in the guide.
HighLevel websites and funnels, including agency accounts.
Any site that already uses Google Tag Manager, if you'd rather not edit the site itself.
Read this first: Google Sites can't run the floating chat. Add a button that opens your chat link instead.
Watch how
Each video shows the website builder's side: where to paste the code. Your BotDesk code comes from the Install tab in your dashboard. Most of these videos come from the platform itself. Nothing loads from YouTube until you press play.
BotDesk AI Chat instead. Watch on YouTube · WordPress guide · WooCommerce guideDevelopment & integrations. Watch on YouTube · Open the Wix guideFooter box, not Header. Watch on YouTube · Open the Squarespace guideFooter code, then publish. Watch on YouTube · Open the Webflow guideAll Pages, save, then Submit and Publish. As the video says, some ad blockers block Tag Manager, so a few visitors may not see the chat. Pasting the code into your site itself avoids that. Watch on YouTube · Open the Google Tag Manager guideNo video for Shopify, GoDaddy or GoHighLevel yet, because we didn't find a current one that matches our steps. On Shopify, the BotDesk app's Enable the BotDesk widget button takes you straight to the switch. For the others, follow the written guide or ask us for free setup help.
Any other website
Every guide uses the same install code from the Install tab of your dashboard. If your platform isn't listed, paste it just before the closing </body> tag on every page, or into your builder's footer or custom code box.
<script async src="https://botdesk.studio/widget.js" data-api-key="YOUR_API_KEY" data-name="AI Assistant" data-color="#1F5AA8" data-greeting="Hi! 👋 How can I help you today?"></script>
Copy yours from the dashboard instead of typing it: your copy has your own key where this one says YOUR_API_KEY. The code carries your key and a few display settings. Everything else, like what the bot knows, your hours and where leads go, loads from your BotDesk account.
Someone else runs your website? In the Install tab, click Email steps to my web person. It opens a ready-to-send email in your own email app with the code and one clear instruction.
After you install
Open your website and look for the chat bubble in the bottom corner, then ask it a question. You can also open the Install tab in your dashboard, type your website address and click Check if it's live.
When the bot takes a visitor's name and phone number, we email it to you and it also shows in the Leads tab. It goes to the email you signed up with unless you change it: open Knowledge, click What your bot can do, and fill in Where should we send new leads?
Lead capture starts on the Starter plan. The Free plan answers questions only.
Change anything in your dashboard, like what the bot knows, how it looks, the pop-up message or the booking button, and save. Changes reach your site automatically within a few minutes. You don't need to paste the code again. Not seeing a change yet? Do a hard refresh: Ctrl+Shift+R, or Cmd+Shift+R on a Mac.
Your business hours (Knowledge, then Business info, then Hours) are what the bot tells visitors when they ask if you're open. The team schedule in the Team tab (Growth plan and up) only decides when your staff show as available for live chat. They are separate, so changing one doesn't change the other.
Open Knowledge, then Business info, and scroll to Hours. Under Closed days and holidays, tap a holiday, use Going on vacation? for a run of dates, or click + Add a closed day. Check that Your time zone is right, then click Save settings. The bot will tell visitors you're closed on those days.
For your security, your bot only chats on the website address you set it up with, plus its subdomains (like shop.yoursite.com). To use it on a different domain, email hello@botdesk.studio and we'll add it.
Send us your website address and we'll help you get it live by email, free.
Someone else runs your website? Open the Install tab in your BotDesk dashboard and click Email steps to my web person. Or email hello@botdesk.studio. We'll reply by email within 24 hours.
